How to install

Installing yourfinance on Windows

Two ways, once the Windows build ships: the Microsoft Store, which is the one we recommend, and a direct zip for people who prefer no store. The download page shows which are available.

Microsoft Store (recommended)

  1. Open the yourfinance listing in the Microsoft Store app (the link is on the download page) and press Get. No Microsoft account is needed for a free app.
  2. Launch from the Start menu. The Store signs the package, so Windows shows no warning and updates arrive through the Store.
  3. On the first launch without a key you are in the free demo with a sample workspace. Paste a key in Settings → Licence, drop the key file there, or click the yourfinance://activate link in your purchase e-mail; Windows asks once which app should open such links.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • The Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime. Windows 11 includes it; on Windows 10 without recent Edge updates yourfinance installs it on first launch (one download from Microsoft, the only network call it makes on its own), or you can install it from Microsoft's site first.

Direct zip (no store)

  1. Download the zip and compare its SHA-256 with the download page: in PowerShell, Get-FileHash .\yourfinance-*.zip -Algorithm SHA256.
  2. Right-click the zip → Extract All into a folder you keep, for example C:\Users\you\yourfinance. Do not run it from inside the zip.
  3. Run yourfinance.exe. Because the zip is not signed with a paid certificate, SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, then Run anyway. This is asked once per download.
  4. Optional: to make purchase-e-mail links open the app, run yourfinance.exe --register-url-scheme once from that folder. It writes one key under your own user profile; no administrator rights.

Where your records live

%APPDATA%\yourfinance, never beside the executable, so moving or deleting the folder you extracted keeps your records.
