How to open
Opening yourfinance on macOS 13 to 26
yourfinance is a normal Mac application in a DMG. What you see on first launch depends on two things: which chip your Mac has, and whether the build you downloaded is notarized. Both are stated on the download page next to each file.
1. Pick the download for your chip
Apple menu → About This Mac. “Apple M1”, “M2”, “M3”, “M4” or “M5” means Apple Silicon; “Intel Core” means Intel. Each has its own DMG and the other one will not launch. The download page names the chip in every file name (arm64 is Apple Silicon, x86_64 is Intel).
2. Check the file (optional, recommended)
In Terminal: shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/yourfinance-*.dmg. The line must match the checksum on the download page. If it does not, delete the file and download again.
3. Install
Open the DMG and drag yourfinance onto the Applications folder shown beside it. Eject the DMG. Launch from Applications (or Spotlight), not from inside the DMG.
4. The first launch, by macOS version
If the download page says the build is notarized, the first launch shows no dialog on any version below. Skip to step 5.
If it says “ad-hoc signed, not notarized”, macOS refuses the first double-click. That is Gatekeeper doing its job, not a fault in the file; do this once:
- macOS 13 Ventura and 14 Sonoma
- In Applications, right-click (or Control-click) yourfinance and choose Open. The dialog now has an Open button. Later launches open normally.
- macOS 15 Sequoia
- Double-click once and dismiss the “Apple could not verify” dialog. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section, and next to the line about yourfinance choose Open Anyway. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.
- macOS 26 Tahoe
- Same as Sequoia: double-click once, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Tahoe may show the confirmation as a second dialog after a short delay; wait for it rather than double-clicking again.
If macOS says the app is damaged, the download was altered in transit or unpacked by a tool that stripped its signature. Check the checksum (step 2), and download the DMG again directly with Safari or the browser's plain download rather than an unzipper.
5. Where your records live
~/Library/Application Support/yourfinance. A first launch without a key shows the demo tier with a sample workspace; paste a key in Settings → Licence, drop the key file there, or click the activation link in your purchase e-mail. Removing the application does not remove your records.
