yourfinance on your phone

The yourfinance companion for iPhone and Android shows a sealed copy of your Decision Desk and positions, reminds you before an option expires, and keeps a notebook for the fills you make away from your desk, with a photo of each confirmation if you like. It pairs with yourfinance on your computer over your own Wi-Fi. It is free with any paid desktop tier, and during the trial.

Get it from the [P5-07: App Store link] or [P5-07: Google Play link]. It needs an iPhone with iOS 15.1 or later, or an Android phone with Android 7.0 or later, and yourfinance on a Mac or Windows computer.

Pair your phone

On your computer, open yourfinance and switch on Settings → Features → Phone link. It says what it does before it goes on.
Choose Settings → Phone link → Pair a phone. A code appears; it works once, for a few minutes.
With the phone on the same Wi-Fi, point its camera at the code and open the link. The app names the computer and asks first: tap Pair with this computer.

The phone then shows your desk. It refreshes when you open the app, when you come back to it, and every 30 seconds while it is open. There is no account and no sign-in, and the phone never asks for a broker or bank login.

Away from home

Away from your Wi-Fi the phone shows the last copy it saw, still sealed. To keep it current, let your computer leave a sealed copy in a folder your phone also syncs, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive: choose the folder under Settings → Phone link on the computer, then the same folder under Away from this Wi-Fi on the phone. The folder's provider cannot read the copy. The phone says when the desk came from the synced folder.

The notebook and Send

Write down a fill, or how an option ended, whenever it happens; the notebook works without pairing too. On the paired phone, Send passes the entries and their photos to your computer, only when you tap it and only over your Wi-Fi. They wait under Import → From your phone until you preview and confirm them there, like any import: nothing reaches your records on its own. Each entry on the phone then says what became of it. Photos you send stay on your computer and are not in its backups.

When something does not work

“yourfinance on your computer could not be reached at …”: Check that the phone is on the same Wi-Fi and that yourfinance is open on the computer with Phone link on. The computer may ask the first time: allow incoming connections for yourfinance. Guest and office networks often keep devices apart; use the synced folder there.
“The computer did not accept this phone. If it was unpaired there, pair again. Also check that both clocks are set automatically.”: Every request is signed with the time, so a clock that is minutes off is refused. Set both to update automatically; if it still happens, the phone was unpaired on the computer, so pair it again.
“yourfinance on your computer is read-only until a licence key is added there.”: The trial on the computer has ended. The phone keeps its entries; add a key on the computer and send them again.
“Phone link is off on your computer. Switch it on in Settings → Features.”: As it says: the switch is off on the computer.
“That pairing code has expired.”: Make a new code on the computer when the phone is ready.

Unpairing

On the computer, Settings → Phone link unpairs a phone and wipes its key; the phone stops updating. On the phone, Unpair this phone forgets the key and the kept copy of the desk; the notebook stays. Entries already sent stay on the computer.

What stays private

Nothing goes through a yourfinance server: the phone talks only to your own computer, over your Wi-Fi, sealed end to end.
The notebook, the kept desk and photos are sealed on the phone under a key that never leaves it; photos are also kept out of the phone's backups.
Expiry reminders stay off until you turn them on, and name tickers only, never amounts.
The phone cannot change your records: yourfinance on your computer stays the only ledger.
