Decision Desk
Know what each choice does before you touch the broker.
The Decision Desk lists the positions that need a decision, in the same order every time, and shows what holding, closing, rolling, expiry, assignment or a call-away would do to cash, realized P&L, assignment exposure and adjusted basis. Nothing is recorded until you record it.
How it works
What yourfinance keeps track of
One inbox, in a fixed order
Past expiries first, then expiries within seven days, plans that are due, expiries within 21 days, policy exceptions and breaches, missing inputs, and recovery work. Each item names the position, the trigger and the amount at risk.
Consequences side by side
Hold, buy to close, expire, assignment, called away, or a roll of the legs you select: each shows the cash movement now, what becomes realized, what stays open, and the adjusted basis after.
Checked against your own rules
Your operating policy, such as a maximum DTE, calls below basis, put obligation per ticker or allocation drift, returns pass, warning or blocked with the actual values and limits. A warning needs a written reason.
The plan, then the fill
The plan, its rationale and date are saved as a decision record that cannot be edited. When the broker fills, you record the event and planned and actual are linked. If the position changes first, the plan is marked stale.
A weekly review to close the loop
Past and coming expiries, open premium at risk, plans due and completed cycles in one list, with a print-ready HTML report and a calendar (ICS) of dates.
- Cash to buy back the calls
- โ$30
- Old calls, realized
- $150
- Net roll credit
- $210
The demo's roll: buy back 3 calls at 0.10, open 3 calls at 23.00 for 0.80. Made-up DEMO ticker, before fees, not a performance claim.
The buy-back never reduces premium collected, and the new 240.00 is not realized just because the roll was entered.
Questions
Questions about this
Does the Decision Desk tell me what to do?
No. It shows what the choices you enter would do, and checks them against rules you wrote. It makes no recommendation, does not rank the choices, and does not place orders.
Does it need live option prices?
No. You enter the current closing debit and the replacement terms, with their source and time. Optional market data sends only the tickers of open positions, for spot quotes; option values stay manual.
Can I roll only part of a position?
Yes. Select the legs and the exact quantity. The roll is one event: every leg is checked before anything is written, and one undo restores the exact state before it.
What happens to a plan when the position changes?
A correction, roll, settlement or any other change to the position makes an unfinished plan stale. It stays on record, but it is never shown as the current plan.
Is it in both tiers?
Yes. The Decision Desk, the scenario engine and operating-policy rules are in Beginner and Pro. Pricing compares the tiers.
