Questions people ask

Short answers about orders, brokers, the cloud, the internet, tax, currencies, Windows, the phone app, the end of the trial, and where to ask.

The short answers. Each topic has a fuller article in the help center.

Does yourfinance place trades?

No. It records what you did at your broker and works out the numbers from it. It never places, changes or cancels an order.

Does it need my broker login?

No. You record trades yourself or import your broker's CSV. Pro can also fetch from a broker or exchange with read-only keys you create there, only when you press Fetch, and nothing is recorded until you confirm it.

Is there a cloud version, or sync between computers?

No. There is no yourfinance account and no server holding your records; they stay in one folder on your computer. To move them, export a backup and restore it on the other computer.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. The app works offline, and your licence key is checked on your computer. Only the features you switch on, such as crypto prices or connectors, use the network, and only when you ask.

Is it tax software?

No. The tax-year export arranges your records for one tax year in Germany, the Netherlands or Czechia. It is not a tax calculation and not tax advice.

Does it convert currencies?

No. The display currency changes how amounts are shown; nothing is converted, and no exchange rates are fetched.

Is there a Windows version, or one for Intel Macs?

Both. The download page has a build for Macs with Apple Silicon and one for Intel (macOS 13 or later). For Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, it offers first the Microsoft Store edition, which Microsoft signs and which leaves out the broker connectors, then a zip with every feature. The zip is not code-signed: Windows may show "Windows protected your PC" (choose More info, then Run anyway), and where Smart App Control is on, Windows blocks it, so use the Store edition there.

Is there a phone app?

A free companion for iPhone and Android is on its way, but it is not in the App Store or Google Play yet. It pairs with yourfinance on your computer over your own Wi-Fi, shows your Decision Desk, and lets you note fills that wait under Import until you add them.

What happens when the trial ends?

The app turns read-only. Every record stays, nothing is deleted, and exports and backups keep working. A Beginner or Pro key makes it editable again.
