Getting started
Your first ten minutes in yourfinance: the trial and its sample, the display currency, your first position or import, the Decision Desk, and a first backup.
When you first open it
With no key, yourfinance starts its 10-day free trial with every feature on. It opens on a sample workspace: a made-up position, DEMO-CO, after one covered-call roll, so every screen has something to show. The sample is marked as a sample and stays out of every export and backup. You can leave it there while you add your own positions.
Set the display currency
In Settings & recovery, choose the Display currency and save. It changes how amounts are shown; nothing is converted.
Add your first position
- Press Add position, choose I own shares, and enter the ticker, the number of shares and the average price paid per share as your broker shows it, with any fees.
- For a covered call on those shares, open the position’s menu in Positions and choose Record short call: the strike, the credit per share, the contracts, the expiry and the fees.
- Starting with a cash-secured put instead? Add position offers that too.
- Or bring your positions in from a file: see Import formats.
See what needs a decision
The Decision Desk opens on What needs a decision?: the positions to look at first, and why. Review decision compares holding, closing and rolling before anything is recorded.
Once a week
Weekly review gathers what is expiring, what is due and anything missing in one list.
Keep a backup
Export backup, in Settings & recovery, saves everything in one file. yourfinance also keeps its own startup backups on your computer.
If you make a mistake
A wrong entry is corrected, not erased. Undo latest event, in the position’s menu, reverses the last event with a written reason, and the history keeps both.
