Privacy and network

yourfinance sends nothing on its own. Every feature that could reach the network is off until you switch it on, and each says what it sends before it does.

Off until you switch it on

In Settings & recovery, the Features card lists every optional capability. Each is off until you switch it on, and a switched-off feature is hidden and cannot make a network request. There is no telemetry.

What each switch does

  • Market data: not in this version. Its only quote source, Yahoo Finance, does not allow use in a paid app, so the switch stays off and nothing is fetched. Enter prices yourself.
  • AI research: not in this version. The Ticker Intelligence switch stays off and nothing is sent.
  • Notifications: local reminders of expiries and decisions. They read only your files and never touch the network.
  • Crypto holdings: coin holdings in their own view, on your computer. Coin prices are a separate opt-in, with its own notice.
  • Broker connectors: read-only fetches from your broker or exchange with your own keys, only when you press Fetch. What comes back waits in the import preview until you confirm it. Your positions, cost basis and journal are never sent.
  • Phone link: pairs the phone app over your own Wi-Fi, while yourfinance is open. The phone gets a sealed copy of your Decision Desk and positions that nobody else on the network can read. Nothing goes through a yourfinance server.

Keys and the app itself

Keys you enter for connectors are kept in the macOS Keychain. They are never shown again, and never written to your data folder, backups, exports or logs.

The app’s own window talks only to a local service on your computer, which accepts nothing from other machines. Your licence key is checked on your computer too, with no activation server.

What the log holds

Under Privacy & diagnostics, the app keeps a rotating log of startup and shutdown events. It records no positions or figures.
