Troubleshooting

When yourfinance will not open, turns read-only, shows a recovery notice or greys out a button, and how to send us the details when none of that helps.

macOS says it could not verify yourfinance

The builds on the download page are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS only asks once whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. If it says instead that it could not verify yourfinance, download the build again from the download page and compare its SHA-256 there. If it still says so, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, choose Open Anyway for yourfinance, and tell us what the dialog said. The steps are in Install and open yourfinance.

Everything is read-only

The 10-day trial has ended. Under Licence, Read-only until a key is added says so. Nothing is deleted, and exports and backups still work. Add a key to make changes again: see The trial, your key and the tiers.

A button is greyed out

An action that cannot run yet says why beside it: a missing input, or a step to do first. Supply that, and the button turns on.

A recovery notice appeared

A record could not be read, so yourfinance set that file aside and kept everything else working. The notice names it under Records requiring review or recovery in the weekly review, and in Settings & recovery. Check the record, restore a backup if it matters, then use Dismiss notice. The file that was set aside is not deleted. When all is well, Settings & recovery reads No quarantined records need review.

An import row needs input

The file does not say something exactly, such as a ticker. Type the value in the preview and preview again. A history file is recorded whole, so nothing is written until every row is ready. See Import formats.

The phone will not connect

The phone app is not in the App Store or Google Play yet. Once it is: both need the same Wi-Fi, and Phone link switched on in Settings & recovery. The steps are on yourfinance on your phone.

Send us the details

In the app, Help has Send feedback. Open mail app starts an e-mail to us that names your version, your platform, your tier and which optional features are on. Tick Attach the diagnostics export to add usage counts; it holds no records. Or use the feedback form.
